We established the plantation in 1996 on high peat. It is situated among forests on the edge of the Goleniowska Forest. Nearby is the area of the Nature and Landscape Complex ‘Torfowisko Reptowo’. Nowadays, this area is part of the Natura 2000 site, which also includes the area of our plantation.
High peat bogs are an ideal substrate for blueberry cultivation. They are the closest to the natural habitat of this species in the USA and Canada. Rich in natural substances, the acidic substrate is additionally abundant in water, which makes it possible to grow the crop without too much fertiliser. It is not an easy crop to grow. It requires the right choice of varieties, the fight against troublesome weeds and protection against high water levels. However, the effort is not pointless, nature repays us with very high yields. Yields of 20-25 t per ha from plants in full growth are not uncommon here, while in crops grown on other substrates, a maximum of 8-10 t per ha is achieved. Very good environmental conditions make it possible to run the plantation in an organic production system and according to the principles of Demeter biodynamic agriculture.
The plantation is not adjacent to any conventional crops; we are surrounded by forest on all sides. We believe that balance and minimal interference with nature’s work repay us with healthy and high yields. Blueamber has, through strategic management, gradually evolved into a modern biodynamic farm and is continually focusing on developing and improving productivity in every dimension. This applies to the cultivation of blueberries but also to the way they are stored, packaged. By constantly investing in new and optimal solutions, we are improving the functioning of every stage the fruit goes through. Priority has always been given to organic cultivation, but not forgetting to facilitate the work of the people who also contribute to the success of the plantation every day. Blueamber takes equal care of the agricultural production aspect and the sales aspect. This translates into the level of goods and services offered.
The period in which we offer blueberries lasts from the beginning of July until the end of October. Storing, sorting and packing takes place on the plantation premises in facilities belonging to the farm. This ensures the highest quality of the offered fruit and full quality control starting in the field and ending with the dispatch to the direct recipient . Investment in infrastructure and modern equipment allows us to adapt to the requirements of each customer. The capacity of our packing plant allows us to dispatch several shipments a day. We adapt the operation of the packing lines to each type of packaging. We label or print every pack.
The necessary infrastructure consists of:
A ULO cold store for 500t of fruit, which has 15 ULO chambers,
Two freezing chambers for 20t of fruit
Packaging warehouse
Two standard cold stores
A chamber for blast chilling of fruit
Packing house and social and office space
A stationary anti-freeze system to ensure complete protection of the harvest.
Each operation is carefully thought out and allows us to supply you with fruit of the highest quality. A number of certificates with which our blueberries are labelled confirm the effectiveness of our efforts. We believe that our values nurtured in every area of life are the key to satisfaction and success.
